Mozilla Firefox is now available for download from the Windows Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11 Mozilla has announced that Firefox will be the first major browser to be downloaded directly from the Windows Store for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Previously, Windows users who wanted to use Firefox instead of Microsoft Edge had to download the browser from the web and follow a complicated process from Microsoft, according to a new Mozilla blog post. Now that Microsoft has changed its Windows Store policies, choosing Firefox as your default browser is a more seamless experience.

Downloading the Mozilla browser from the Windows Store is not only easier, but it also gives you access to all the latest Firefox features, including full cookie protection, enhanced tracking protection, DNS over HTTPS, fast website loading with WebRender and Quantum CSS, Firefox Suggest, Multi Picture-in-Picture and customization with seasonal color schemes.
Gecko engine
At the heart of Firefox and all other browsers is a browser engine responsible for loading web pages from websites and displaying them on your screen. While Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome use Chromium as their browser engine, Firefox uses Mozilla’s proprietary Gecko engine.
Until recently, Microsoft Store policies required all browsers to use the engine Microsoft built into its platform, which prevented Mozilla from shipping Firefox to users through the Windows Store. Not only do these policies give users fewer options, but they also harm the web, because Windows users would only have access to features that Microsoft was willing to provide.
