Xiaomi has presented data glasses that the electronics company doesn’t want to release anytime soon. After today’s big reveal, a company spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that Xiaomi “has no plans to put it on sale.” At the moment, Xiaomi smart glasses are little more than a complete concept; an advanced look into the future of portable devices, with MicroLED fiber optic technology.
MicroLED is a snap for Xiaomi and, according to the company’s blog post, it allows for a more compact display, easier display integration, higher pixel density, and longer lifespan. . The monochrome display allows the eye to safely perceive digital content, even in direct sunlight.
“All of this is done on a single lens rather than using complex multi-lens, mirror or half-mirror systems as is the case with other products,” Xiaomi said. “Fiber-optic technology dramatically reduces the size and weight of the device and allows data glasses to approximate the form factor of conventional glasses. The specs weigh just 51 grams.
The blacktop bar frames are designed to fit, with hidden features like an AR-compatible display and a built-in 5-megapixel camera that takes photos and translates text. Xiaomi smart glasses are more than a “second screen” for your smartphone, they are designed as an “independent operating smart terminal” that can display notifications, make calls, navigate, and more in front of your eyes. A microphone and a translation algorithm also allow the user to transcribe the audio in real-time.
Housing a quad-core ARM processor, battery, WLAN, and Bluetooth modules, the glasses act as a stand-alone Android device that does not need to be connected to a smartphone. The Xiaomi concept comes days after Facebook and Ray-Ban launched the Stories smart glasses, which include audio and camera functionality (but no augmented reality) in a discreet pair of frames.
