Not a fancy emoji for those still using the old desktop operating systems you may remember, Windows 11 just got some nifty new emojis that flow in style and are modern, but these aren’t coming to Windows 10.
They landed earlier this week as part of a preview update for Windows 11, so they’re officially still being tested on that OS, though Microsoft will be shipping them fully live for Windows 11 in December (Patch Tuesday 12/14).
The emoji that contains the clip that replaced Clippy, the iconic assistant that annoyed, uh, we mean it helped us in the past in Word, it won’t make it to Windows 10, or at least it seems that Microsoft’s plan will be informed by Windows.
The tech site claims Microsoft has no plans to design modern emojis in Windows 10 and that they will remain exclusive to Windows 11, at least for now. However, Windows Latest continues to warn that Microsoft may change its mind in the future.
Analysis: Emoji isn’t high on most folks’ Windows 10 wish-lists
Of course, many Windows 10 users will say that they won’t lose much sleep due to a lack of updated emojis, and that’s a good point. That’s okay, and no one needs to upgrade to Windows 11, of course.
That being said, they’re nice to have, and transferring to Windows 10 wouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Microsoft might feel like it was getting a bit of a weird warning, unlike the older operating system. Take advantage of the fluid design style that comes with Windows 11.
Whatever the reasons are at the moment, we could see them end up continuing, as the report notes. Meanwhile, Windows 10 users just have to stick with their tired old vanilla emojis.
