Peloton might be ready to expand beyond stationary bikes, treadmills, and fitness accessories. 9to5Google discovered evidence of rowing instructions in the company’s latest Android app update, suggesting that rumors that Peloton is considering launching rowing are true.
While decompiling version 1.0.331270 of the Peloton app released to the Google Play Store, signs of an upcoming rower were found. 9to5Google was then able to examine the Android Application Package (APK) files and discover the latest clues about Peloton’s plans.
These suggestions included four possible instructions for rowing exercises, as well as two coded strings that, when decoded, revealed two possible product names, Mazu and Caesar, followed by “inspiring scenic drives from around the world.” These potential names were also used for the “Just Mazu” and “Just Caesar” chains, which refer to Peloton’s unguided training setup.
9to5Google says it found clues from the Peloton app as well, including support for “counting your total strokes, as well as measuring your maximum stroke frequency and your average stroke frequency” when it is used with a rower. Right now the question seems to be when and not if Peloton will launch a rower.
There was other evidence that Peloton was working on an oar. Bloomberg announced the company’s plans to move to the new product category in 2019, and in July Connect the Watts spotted a job posting for a senior product safety engineer confirming that there is no had no rower.
